Huatulco’s waters can be rough, with strong rip currents, so pay attention to lifeguards and safety flags. While the waves at Playa Tangolunda, located east of Santa Cruz, can be strong at times depending on the tides and do pick up in the afternoon, the waters are generally safe to swim in.
